WellPlayed.org is a website devoted to the cause of uniting the eSports community. The goal is to bring everyone together and get them talking about their favorite players, casters, matches, and tournaments. Now that everyone is here, it’s time to bring the content together too. Imagine being able to sit down and turn on a stream with the push of a button. Imagine having streams of all of your favorite games at your fingertips, with an incomparable array of tools to arrange, view, and organize them to your liking. The time has come to create a stream-viewing experience with the same level of polish and flexibility we demand from our other media. The time has come for WellPlayed.tv.

What is WellPlayed.tv?
“WPTV will definitely offer the most complete experience available today for stream watching. I know it's something that the community needed for a long time, and WPTV will deliver. My favorite thing is basically the sheer amount of features and endless possibilities that it will provide.” – Kapl0w, WPTV Designer

WellPlayed.tv is the result of over a month’s work to develop a stream-viewing tool that takes the ease and familiarity of watching television in the comfort of your living room and puts it on your computer in an intuitive and familiar interface. The goal is to bring streams from all walks of the eSports world to one place and make them instantly accessible to everyone. WPTV has been designed from the ground up to make an uninterrupted viewing experience the number one priority. The suite of viewing tools is comprehensive and discrete; use them to create your ideal viewing experience, and then hide them when it’s time to watch. The dark color scheme makes sure that your eyes are drawn only to the stream; you’re here to watch, and nothing should distract you from that.

WPTV is designed to maximize your viewing experience without sacrificing the use of your computer. Gone are the days of needing to keep a stream open in full screen just to be able to keep track of a player’s health or supply count. Similar to WellPlayed.org, streams on WPTV will take up most of the screen by default, allowing you to easily see every Hadoken and Baneling explosion without having to give up the rest of your desktop. When creating the interface, the dev team drew inspiration from websites like Grooveshark, and as a result WPTV is clean and easy to use, and the content is provided by the community. WPTV aims to become the de facto tool for all eSports streaming. Can you imagine a day when you’ll be able to watch matches of Super Street Fighter 4, StarCraft II, and Mavel vs. Capcom 3 in the same place using one web app? That day is closer than you think.

WellPlayed.tv Features
“What I like is that I won't need to waste time carefully arranging windows to view multiple streams, I'll be able to do it all from a single window. Anybody who likes watching StarCraft II streams will love WPTV.” – Absentis, WPTV Executive

Multistream
Simple and powerful, WPTV will allow you to watch multiple streams at once. Gone are the days of switching browser tabs and adjusting audio outputs. You’ll be able to watch Artosis vs. ViBe on the NASL stream and then immediately switch to the EG Masters Cup stream in time to catch iNcontroL vs KiWiKaKi. Organizing your streams is a quick and logical process with drag-and-drop capabilities and options to re-size screens and adjust audio so you see and hear exactly what you want.

Hotkeys
Using hotkeys familiar to any PC gamer, WPTV aims to recreate the feel of a remote control with little more than the WASD keys. Inspired in part by the work of Jake from WarpPrism.com, streams can be flipped through as easily as television channels. Don’t know what to watch? No problem. Flip around until something catches your eye. These controls won’t be forced on anyone; a full point-and-click interface is also available, but for those interested in mastering WPTV’s keyboard tools, a guide will be available to explain every nuance.

Community Integration
Although in a separate domain, WPTV is fully integrated with WellPlayed.org. Any streams that you follow on the main site will carry over to WPTV, as will your upvotes. The same comprehensive search will be included as well as well, allowing you to search for streams with very specific criteria. You can search for “Live Master Zerg,” find every Master League Zerg player whose stream is currently live, and start watching one right away.

Notifications will be another feature integrated between sites that will provide granular control over your viewing experience. When a stream you’re following goes online, a notification will appear on both WellPlayed.org and WPTV, so you’ll be able to always know when your favorite players or tournaments are live.

Browsing
Each channel in your “Favorites” list will be assigned a number. That number can be used to immediately jump to the channel, just like on a television remote. Because uninterrupted viewing is the goal of WPTV, use of the search and browsing features will not pause what you are watching. As indicated in the image below, the stream will be minimized but continue to play as you browse other channels. This will allow the detailed descriptions of every stream that’s part of WellPlayed.org to be seamlessly integrated into your viewing experience.

Coming Soon
“WPTV will allow the members of the SC2 community to fit more events and streams in their day by allowing them to organize and prioritize their favorite streams and events. Whenever someone watches a stream they are inherently supporting it and therefore the SC2 community.” –XMO, WPTV Developer

WellPlayed.tv is almost here. It will debut in the coming weeks, but we want your feedback before it launches. Tell us what features you want to see. I'd like for you to not have stolen someone's idea and made it your own. The right thing to do should have been to approach warp prism and work with him to improve on his work. Saying you're "inspired" is a low way of saying " we saw his early work and decided to copy it and make it better since we could see it and make improvements...oh by the way warp prism inspired us with the hotkey idea...well really the entire idea was his but we'll just say hotkeys only to save face"

We've been working on this since before we heard about Warp Prism, and this accusation is absurd. Do you seriously think we thought up, mocked up, and developed this thing in 3 weeks? Furthermore, we said on the Reddit thread for Warp Prism that we were already working on something similar. In fact, I make the comment specifically to have it on the record at the time: http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/h1wgg/hi_rstarcraft_i_made_warp_prism_to_help_me_watch/c1rz4oa

Please stop making accusations without cause. We don't develop things to "beat" other people. We have our own internal timeline, visions, and goals, and frankly, if you are convinced that we "stole" the idea (what does that even mean? It's a stream aggregator) then there's little we can do to convince you otherwise. If Warp Prism came out after WPTV, would you accuse Jake of "stealing" an idea?

Maybe in the future, we should announce every idea we have to enforce some sort of ridiculous intellectual trademark on it? To prove that we thought of it first?

I'm pretty disappointed at this kind of response, and I truly hope it's not representative of how anyone think WellPlayed regards itself or initiates new projects.

I had a whole post written up and then I decided this isn't worth the time.

You posted a comment that doesn't prove anything. Saying you're working on something similar when in reality it's the exact same...doesn't prove a thing. Don't sit here and try to tell me you aren't trying to beat him. You posted this preview following his announcement to divert eyes away from warpprism and onto your project. Nothing less...nothing more.

Do you also think that the NASL shouldn't have been allowed to make a Starcraft 2 League because the GSL was doing it at the same time? You know Team Liquid had a Starcraft 2 centric forum before WellPlayed did. Think that WellPlayed "stole" that idea too?

The fact of the matter is that whether or not they stole it is irrelevant. This is the internet, and people are going to come up with the same ideas all the time. Which ever product is better is the one that will come up on top, and you, the consumer, are going to do nothing except benefit from it.

FearGorm; Disarming bombs with very calm palms.

6May 14th 2011 2:45 PM

This is going to be awesome :).

10May 13th 2011 10:32 PM

Wellplayed is so onpoint right now.

10May 13th 2011 10:53 PM

Iirc, the guy that made WarpPrism, did so for himself. After that fact he decided to release it publically. I dont see how this fleshed-out feature rich project is anywhere near the same as warp aside from the very basic, general idea of making stream watching easier.

Good god, I love you WellPlayed. Being fairly new to the community (started with the SC2 Beta a year ago), TL's site was always intimidating, between content, moderation, and quite frankly, the godawful layout. While I bounce between SotG and SCReddit, you've officially given me no reason to bother with TL.net. I realize I'm a lot more casual than most, but, yeah, thank you for this site: it's #1 in my Chrome most visited. Even without this addition which looks absolutely phenomenal, you've really made a place for yourself with this quality site.

7May 14th 2011 8:55 PM

This looks soooo cool. i love the layout, it looks sleek and functional.

One thing that I would love to see is a chat feature. being able to chat is almost a make or break for me because its really the only thing that makes live different from VODs.

even without chat this looks amazing though, great job. Wellplayed continues to impress.

6May 14th 2011 12:06 AM

There will be chat :)

3May 14th 2011 12:07 AM

This is exactly what WP needs to get the edge on TL and other competitive websites. Content like this is what gets eSports into the main stream, it's super hard for a newcomer to get "in the know" with what streams are good/popular/when they are on. Upvotes and filters? Pretty much perfection.

Amazing, just amazing.

6May 14th 2011 4:25 AM

I'll just leave this here.

6May 25th 2011 7:25 PM

This site just continues to improve. This is some sick shit. Keep coming guys.

5May 14th 2011 2:58 AM

This is amazing. You guys rock.

5May 15th 2011 1:43 AM

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. What would I like to see? I'd just like to see it up and running now!

4May 14th 2011 12:11 AM

You and me both! Everybody on the project is really excited about it and are working quickly on getting it functional because they want to use it as much as everyone else!

3May 14th 2011 4:37 AM

Very nice

Features i would like to have: Record function (saving the streams in file form to my HD) A big list of streams with filter function (only show protos...only show streams above/below number of viewers, only show streams with music/commentary) Reminder function (giving a visual/sound signal if something go's online) Voting on channels and giving reviews.

Ps.: this is AWESOME and it really starts to feel legit to have my computer and streaming as my main entertainment source :)

4May 14th 2011 11:07 AM

This is the BEES NEES!

3May 14th 2011 1:51 AM

This looks really well done, can't wait to get to use it.

Keep up the good work!

3May 14th 2011 4:03 AM

I think a feature that is definitely needed that does not seem to be shown is the ability to watch multiple streams at once in a grid fashion and be able to quickly switch your sound frm one stream to the other. Sorry for all the typos my backspace key broke.

3May 14th 2011 5:49 AM

Everything that you just asked for will actually be there :).

2May 14th 2011 6:08 AM

cant wait for that, looks so awesome. keep up the great work guys!

3May 15th 2011 12:06 AM

I need to change my undergarments.

3May 24th 2011 11:39 PM

No worries, WPTV will come with a pair.

1May 26th 2011 5:25 AM

Sweet channel surfing will be hella cool and programmable channels too =D

2May 14th 2011 12:11 AM

Looks really nice, Although isn't this effectively just re-implementing what Warp Prism currently does for the most part? I mean personally this looks nicer to me, but I'm just wondering if there are any significant differences I'm missing (other than using WP's channels as the source rather than TL's stream list).

2May 14th 2011 2:03 AM

You'll be able to follow channels you like, view multiple streams at once, see what the community thinks are the best streams through upvotes, filter streams by tags like race, league, server, and even get notified when your favorite stream or event goes live. It will be almost like a tv with an on-screen guide.

4May 14th 2011 2:30 AM

Is it just me or does it seem like this announcement was made early, due to the announcement of the new warp prism site? Not saying that's a bad thing, but it's weird that both were announced so close to each other.

2May 14th 2011 3:03 AM

WPTV has been in the works since before Warp Prism was known to anyone other than its developer. How long the idea for Warp Prism had been inside its developer's head prior to its release is unknown to us. I commend the creator of Warp Prism, however, WPTV will be unparalleled in usability and features to say the least.
