Hello!
Thank you for visiting WellPlayed.org, where eSports lives! We’re thrilled that you want to join our growing community and explore all that it has to offer. We've created what we hope will be a centralized resource and a place for you to call home. Please keep in mind while you enjoy the site that there will almost assuredly be bugs and inconveniences, and that we are in a beta phase. Our mission is to spread eSports to the world, and with your help and feedback, we will do just that. We've created what we hope will be a centralized resource and a place for you to call home, and we hope you support us as we do our best to bring eSports to you!
eSports, The WellPlayed Staff
Our mission is as follows:
To be the world’s most foremost producers of eSports coverage and events, and through our passion expand the presence of eSports into every household in the world.
Many people have seen this mission and assumed the unveiling of WellPlayed would be the announcement of a tournament, or new league, or series of events. Some people are probably confused about the fact that we are launching as a community - with features like forums, channels, and tournament management software.
Before you build a house, you need a foundation.
The StarCraft community on the whole is growing tremendously. Individuals who love the game are sharing it with their friends. People are finding content on YouTube and seeing StarCraft gameplay as engaging as many mainstream sports and certainly as engaging, if not more engaging, than other competitive video games. People like Jonathan Walsh, Greg Fields, Tyler Wasieleski, Sean Plott and Dario Wünsch - or as many of us know them better, Jinro, Idra, Tyler, Day[9] and TheLittleOne, are gaining fans and followers just as traditional athletes do. Much as people playing basketball or football aspire to be as great as Michael Jordan or Peyton Manning one day, members of the StarCraft community look to these players and in some cases try and emulate them.
With that said, as friendly and welcoming as the StarCraft community is, for an outsider it can be quite daunting to get into. There are many, many great casters and tournaments that do not get noticed - not because their content isn’t as good, but because the discovery process is undeveloped. This worked fine when the community was small and more streamlined, as during the Brood War days. Now with hundreds (and soon thousands) of tournaments, showmatches, episodic content, live streams, podcasts and more, the barrier to entry for a new fan has to be non-existent. Right now there is a wall that you have to bust through. We’re here to put up a welcome mat.
In the future, there is no question that we will be partnering with other organizations to bring you great tournaments, leagues, and showmatches, and we will also be doing the same independently, just as we did with the SCRI. But before we did that, we wanted to put our talent and skills into helping grow this community, for the benefit of everyone. The goal of WellPlayed is not to take traffic from one place or another – it is to build a giant bridge to the island of passion and excitement we all live on so a lot more people can come join us.
And finally, to those of you who remark that eSports is a lot more than just StarCraft, we agree. We’re starting with what we know well, but our mission is where we are moving. WellPlayed’s growth and expansion doesn’t end today. It is only the beginning.

thanks for creating this site, guys. i've become increasingly frustrated with another-site-i-won't-name's dominance in the esports (particularly sc2) community and feel they're arrogant and elitist with much of their dealings with the community, and have ingrained within their veterans to be equally arrogant and elitist. esports can only grow if you're open to new ideas and new people. i love everything you guys stand for and welcome an alternative community with message boards and links to user streams to enjoy sc2. keep up the good work.
